Ms. Daves’ Class is a collection of educational materials created by former educator and mother, Dakota Daves.
Dakota began her education journey at Virginia Tech where she earned her first degree in Agriculture. She then went on to become a middle and high school agriculture teacher, as well as an FFA advisor. Several years in, as her family began to grow, she decided to quit teaching public school and start homeschooling her young children on her small farm in rural Virginia. Her home-ed/homestead dreams were cut short with the tragic passing of her husband. The farm was sold and the life of her and her 5 children pivoted as she went to nursing school to become an RN and sent the children to a local private christian school to earn their education.
While starting out as a public school teacher, Dakota spent hours creating lessons that followed the Virginia Department of Education’s Standards of Learning for each grade level. And then more hours typing them out in long form and submitting them each week to her superintendent. She felt frustrated with the process. There was so much time spent creating the lessons and less time actually teaching or enjoying her students.
Starting out as a home-educator, the struggle was similar. The process to create the lessons to teach her young children often took more time than their attention spans would allow for the lesson to take place.
Her hopes when creating this venture were that this website would help take some of the struggle away from other new teachers or moms. More time actually learning and enjoying the children and less time structuring and typing was the goal!
This goal grew into an online school of its own! Ms. Daves’ Class now offers complete K-12 curriculum packages, complete with standardized tests. Everything you need for you in-home, or in-class, education is right at your finger tips!
